Certified Correctional Trainer Certification Description Candidates must have three years of experience as a correctional trainer as defined in the CCT Handbook for Candidates. Anyone who provides training for managers, staff, and/or volunteers of a correctional agency (defined below). Adjunct or field trainers and faculty of institutions of higher learning in the areas of corrections, criminal and juvenile justice (and related areas) are eligible to participate in the certification process. Trainer skills include preparing adequately, both for content and training logistics; delivering clear, engaging presentations; effectively facilitating participant learning activities; evaluating the effectiveness of training; and making adjustments to improve effectiveness. Certified Corrections Officer/Provisional Certification Description Individuals in this category will work directly with offenders. For certification status to become permanent, those who pass the CCO/P exam must secure a full-time position in a corrections-related agency (within two-years from their exam date) and receive a satisfactory performance rating from their immediate supervisor after one-year on-the-job. Certified Corrections Supervisor - Security Threat Groups Certification Description The American Correctional Association and the National Major Gang Task Force have collaborated to develop within the Corrections Certification Program a Security Threat Group specialization. Specialty examinations are offered to security threat group staff who qualify for either the manager or the supervisor categories; i.e., providing an opportunity for corrections professionals to gain recognition as either a security threat group specialist/manager (CCM/STG) or security threat group specialist/supervisor (CCS/STG).
