Low Vision Therapists, Orientation and Mobility Specialists, and Vision Rehabilitation Therapists

Certification Description
The CLVT uses functional vision evaluation instruments to assess visual acuity, visual fields, contrast sensitivity function, color vision, stereopsis, visual perceptual and visual motor functioning, literacy skills in reading and writing, etc. as they relate to vision impairment and disability. The CLVT also evaluates work history, educational performance, ADL and IADL performance, use of technology, quality of life and aspects of psychosocial and cognitive function.

Certification Description
Professional certification of Orientation-and-Mobility specialists has existed for over 30 years. In that time, certification procedures and standards have evolved and changed as the profession has continued to grow. In 2000, the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) was formed. The role of ACVREP is to assume responsibility for professional certification of rehabilitation and education professionals in the area of visual impairment.
